Thrifty Couture takes unloved clothes and with good design and workmanship creates covetable and affordable fashion. It is fast becoming THE place for fashion conscious and green shoppers. The social enterprise delivers apprenticeship training for unemployed 16 to 25 year olds from inner city London as well as helping to refresh the dormant skills of ex-prisoners, and older and retired residents. Follow our journey from blog to business.

And the winner is...
Thrifty Couture dressed up last night and went to the Sustainable City Awards, and won!
The Awards are the UK's foremost recognition of companies, big and small, who are going that bit further to make a difference to their environment.
For Thrifty as you know, reusing what historically goes into landfill, is the basis of how we operate and the first of our three tenets. We are currently up to 1.3tonne of clothing and cloth and counting
Showing others how they can re-purpose their own garments so that they too get infected with the habit - and pass it on - is our second tenet.
And thirdly, we retrain the unemployed or those who find it very hard to even get in the interview queue, and that is our last, and possibly, our most important tenet.
Hot off the photographer's Mac ...
The overriding theme of the awards was Sustainable Fashion and the lovely Livia Firth was presenting alongside Alderman Fiona Woolf CBE, who will be Lord Mayor next year.
The fashion category awards went to long established warriors in the sustainability war, the amazing Patchacuti and People Tree.

Our little enterprise won the "Greening the Third Sector" category which
recognises and rewards the efforts of voluntary groups, social enterprises and charities
across London, who are making real improvements to their ecological
footprints by reducing waste, using energy and water more efficiently
and cutting down on transport and resource use.
The award is in association with The City Bridge Trust and The Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers.
This was amazing, but the biggest surprise was yet to come when Simon Mills announced the Overall Award Winner. It was Thrifty Couture again.
In the excitement none of us took photos - so I'll be back with some glossies a bit later. But in the meantime here is a photo I took last night of our two awards and the two certificates we collected for our sister company, GetMoreBikes. A big thank you to collaborators ReWorks who were on hand to hold one of the trophies.
